TIPS FOR SHARING THE ROAD WITH BICYCLES

April 15th, 2019 by

While bicycles are required to follow the rules of the road that govern automobiles, they don’t always act in predictable ways. It’s an aspect of defensive driving to develop methods of coping on the road with vehicles that are smaller and slower.
It’s easy to miss seeing bicycles that happen to be in your blind spot. Always check twice when making a turn to ensure there are no pedestrians or bicycles in your way. When making a right turn at a red light if your state allows it, always come to a full stop before turning and thoroughly check that the way is clear.
When you must pass a bicycle, leave a space of at least three feet between you. If your lane is too narrow to allow for that gap, wait until you can pass by changing lanes.
